Where do I even start with this oud oil? Since its release back in 2006, the entire collection of superlatives in the English language has most likely already been deployed in the praise of the original Oud Royale. While this was not my first oud oil, it was the one that grabbed me and ensured my long-term fascination with this liquid gold. It’s no exaggeration to say that without Oud Royale, the present and future projects I am involved in would not have materialised.
For me, the Oud Royale is not just another oud oil, but is also an undeniable part of oud folklore and history in a way that few other oils are and one that I seldom use, except on significant and special occasions. The final few bottles sold for $10,000, including one I returned back to Ensar in 2012.
On opening the bottle, one immediately struck by its unique Maroke opening jungle note displaying a shimmering and aged liqueur magnificence, that evolves into the finest and most exquisite antique wood scent that mere words cannot capture. I could go on and on about this oil which is my personal favourite oud oil of all time, but the best thing you can do is experience the magic yourself.
